Fall is the perfect time to slow down, get cozy inside, and have fun in the kitchen with all of the delicious autumnal flavors – cinnamon, spice and those “oh so nice” squashes and sweet potatoes.
In addition to the warming and comforting foods we enjoy during this time of year, it’s a time to reflect on where those food come from and the people that grow, harvest and package them to get to a grocery store shelf you. In this spirit, we’re excited that October is Fair Trade Month: a celebration of the farmers and makers behind the products and the positive impact that Fair Trade has on their livelihoods.
Throughout our 20-year history, Wholesome has paid over $20MM in Fair Trade premiums to the sugar cane farmers, agave farmers and beekeepers we work with around the globe. The distribution and use of these premiums are decided upon in a democratic process within the communities, and farming family members vote to determine how funds should be used – to build schools, purchase farming equipment and improve healthcare through acquiring ambulances and other supplies to ensure families have the care they need.
To us, Fair Trade is the way to do business, and every person in the supply chain is valued. To support Fair Trade this month and every month, choose Fair Trade products whenever possible and know that you are helping to empower farmers and makers around the globe.
