Brown Sugar Barbecue Tofu

INGREDIENTS

¾ cup soy sauce 

¼ cup water 

1 cup Wholesome Organic Fair Trade Light Brown Sugar 

¼ cup mirin 

2 tbsp sesame oil 

1 tbsp rice wine vinegar 

¼ tsp fresh ground pepper 

½ tsp red pepper flakes 

1 tbsp gochujang pepper paste 

1 tbsp fresh grated ginger 

1 ½ tbsp fresh grated garlic 

3 tbsp cornstarch & 3 tbsp water 

1 16 oz package of firm tofu 

 


INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Set aside tofu and 3 tbsp cornstarch & 3 tbsp water. 
  2. Put all other ingredients in a pot, bring to a boil, and simmer for 7-9 minutes. 
  3. In a small bowl combine cornstarch & water to create a slurry. Add a ladle of the sauce into the slurry and mix until smooth.  
  4. Then add the slurry to the pot and whisk until thick. 
  5. Continue to simmer until sauce is thick enough to coat the back of a spoon, about 8-10 minutes. 
  6. Cut tofu into large cubes. 
  7. Heat a large skillet over medium heat with oil, and add tofu. 
  8. Gently sauté until golden brown and then add the sauce. 
  9. Reduce heat and cook for a few minutes until thickened and caramelized.
