Baking Change for Communities: The Batchmaker
In this Baking Change for Communities series, Wholesome is proud to feature bakers making a positive impact in their communities, wherever they may be. We’re looking to discover those that lead with their hearts, that offer support where it’s needed, and help create positive impact through the act of baking. By showcasing their stories, we hope to share what is possible when sugar, flour and other ingredients are combined and inspire others to use baking as a platform to “do good” in their communities.
A Bakery that leads in positive community impact is The Batchmaker of Charlotte, NC. Created by Cris Rojas Agurcia. Founded in 2017, Cris started her bakery with the motto, “People first, cake second,” and knew from the beginning that she wanted her business to make a positive impact in the community. Over the years The Batchmaker has supported countless efforts to support others – from diaper drives to fundraisers for those in need.
When a flood hit the bakery in November 2020, it was the community that supported Cris in recovering and rebuilding. Not only did they respond to help, but they provided Cris the inspiration she needed to keep going. Cris and The Batch Maker are a true example of people supporting people in times of need, and Wholesome is proud to feature their efforts.
