Restoring Soil, One Farm at a Time, with Wholesome™ Regenerative Organic Certified® Sugars

Throughout our 20+ year history, the Wholesome brand has been a steward of sustainable sourcing, seeking out the highest quality sweeteners that are grown with integrity. From USDA Organic Certified to Fair Trade Certified™, Wholesome has helped pioneer and be on the forefront of adopting certification standards to ensure that people and planet are respected and cared for throughout the creation of our products. Because we’re always looking for ways to further improve the way we grow, harvest, and produce our sweeteners, we’ve partnered with one of our farmer cooperatives in South America to launch our first Regenerative Organic Certified® Cane and Turbinado Sugars, which are grown using regenerative agriculture methods that help build soil health, sequester carbon and ensure the fair treatment of farm workers.

 What is Regenerative Organic Certified®?

Regenerative Organic Certified® is an agricultural certification for food, fiber, and personal care ingredients. Based on three pillars, it requires farmers to commit to using practices that ensure healthy soil, the ethical and humane treatment of animals, and fairness for farmers & workers. It was created to address the climate crisis, soil degradation, biodiversity loss, factory farming, and fractured rural economies globally.

The goals of Regenerative Organic Certified® are to promote healthy agriculture practices in an all-encompassing certification that:

  • Increases soil organic matter over time and sequesters atmospheric carbon in soil,
  • Ensures the ethical and humane treatment of animals and emphasizes pasture-based systems, and
  • Provides fair conditions for all farmers, ranchers, and workers

Regenerative Organic Certified® represents the highest standard for organic agriculture in the world. By purchasing Regenerative Organic Certified® products, you can connect with a full suite of important values and know at-a-glance that your purchase helps make a positive impact at every level: environmentally, ethically, and socially.

What is the difference between Wholesome Organic Fair Trade Sugars and Wholesome Regenerative Organic Certified® Sugars?

Wholesome Organic Fair Trade Sugars are premium quality sugars, sourced in close partnership with our farmers with Fair Trade programs and using premiums that are given back to our farming communities. Wholesome Regenerative Organic Certified® Sugars have the same premium quality, are also Organic and Fair Trade, and bear the additional Regenerative Organic Certified® seal, which certifies that the sugarcane is grown on a farm with regenerative agriculture practices in a way that help regenerate the soil and supports the people involved in the growing and harvesting process.

Additionally, Wholesome’s Regenerative Organic Certified® Cane and Turbinado Sugars are packaged in 72% bio-resin pouch that utilizes a bio-resin made from sugarcane. It is our goal that we can work towards more sustainable packaging for the rest of the Wholesome Sugar line over time.

Not all Wholesome sugars are Fair Trade or Regenerative Organic Certified®.  Please check our labels and website for information on which sweeteners qualify for these certifications.
